The subject of the announcement is vague, to say the least. But reporters have noted that the last time Rosenstein held such an ambiguous conference, that turned out to be the day Robert Mueller brought indictments against multiple Russians for their involvement in the effort to meddle with the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
The only other time DOJ tweeted a Rosenstein announcement w/o topic was the day he announced Mueller’s Russian indictments. pic.twitter.com/jegEAEzQ6b

Obviously, there’s no telling whether this announcement will be just as politically monumental, but still…Friday surprise, anyone?
UPDATE: Multiple reporters have confirmed that the announcement will pertain to the special counsel.
Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein’s pending press conference is special counsel-related, according to a Justice Department official.
