WATCH: Video Shows Border Patrol Car Hitting a Native American Man, Speeding Off

There was a disturbing incident in Arizona on Thursday when a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle struck a Native American man and then apparently drove off.

Paulo Remes got a lot of attention on social media after filming a video of himself walking on a dirt road near his house while he was trying to find his music speakers. Remes ended up filming a hit-and-run against himself though after he was hit by a border patrol SUV.

The agent in the driver’s seat did not get out to check on him; instead, they turned on the sirens and sped away. Remes was taken to the hospital and treated for minor bruising before being released.

“I ran into the dirt road in front of my house, because I know they’ll try and hit me,” Remes said in a statement picked up by Arizona Daily Star. “I’m doing all right, I’m just a little sore, really.”

Remes is a resident of the Tohono O’odham Nation, and his family said that they hope the video will “contribute to greater justice for O’odham families and all victims of Border Patrol violence, both inside and outside the Tohono O’ogham Nation.”

The Tohono O’ogham Nation also condemned the “disturbing” incident, and Border Patrol is reportedly cooperating with the FBI, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and tribal authorities for an investigation.
