‘You’re Actually Not Telling the Truth’: Joe, Mika, and Sarah Sanders Spar Over James Comey
Things got very testy on the set of Morning Joe Wednesday as hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski laced into Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
The subject was James Comey.
Facing questions from Willie Geist, Sanders mostly repeated the standard administration line about how both parties had lost confidence in James Comey.
“I think it’s real simple,” she said. “The Deputy Attorney General … made a very strong recommendation. The president followed it and he made a quick and decisive action to fire James Comey.”
Things got pricklier when Sanders tried to throw Scarborough’s own past Comey statements in face. “Joe, even earlier this year you thought it was time for him to step down,” she said. Sanders invoked Scarborough again moments later in trying to deflect questions from the Trump-Russia investigation.
“I know that person after person, including your own Joe Scarborough has said there’s no evidence of collusion here,” she said.
That finally pushed Scarborough over the edge.
“Whoa whoa whoa. I’ve got to interrupt. I said there’s no obvious evidence FBI collusion out there right now and if there were that obvious evidence and collusion it would have already been leaked by now. I also think there has to be an in depth investigations because it may take, I think probably an independent prosecutor to figure out the financial ties between Donald Trump and Russia,” he said.
“So since you brought my name up twice now, again. I expected liberal democrats … I’m surprised you’re twisting my words,” Scarborough scolded.
“We’ve had almost an entire year…. everyone has looked into this and everybody comes to the same conclusion that there is no evidence of collusions,” Sanders pressed.
That set the panel off, leading Mika into the act as well.
“You’re actually not telling the truth right now,” she said in disbelief.
“That’s a pretty bold claim,” Sanders shot back.
“Your president loved Comey,” Mika replied.
