‘You Don’t Know How Much That Means to Us’: Biden Calls Family Of Slain Soldier In Heart-Wrenching Video

Earlier this week, President Joe Biden calling the family of a slain U.S. soldier to inform them their loved one had been posthumously promoted — in a moment captured on video by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, a native of Waycross, Georgia, was killed last weekend during a drone attack near the Syrian border while serving alongside Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett and Sgt. William Jerome Rivers.

The president called Sanders’ parents,  Shawn Sanders and Oneida Oliver-Sanders, on Tuesday and asked for permission to join them when their daughter’s body returns to the country.

“I just want you to know that you’re in my prayers, in my heart,” Biden added. “And I know you don’t want the press at the return of the body, but, with your permission, I’d like to be there with you, if that’s okay.”

“We would love for you to be there,” Oneida responded while Shawn added, “It would be an honor.”

The call then took an emotional turn when Biden revealed their daughter was being posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant.

“Oh, wow. That is the best news I’ve heard today. Thank you so much. You don’t know how much that means to us,” Oneida replied after hearing the news from Biden. Both parents then begin to cry as the president informed them he understands the heartbreak of losing a child.

“I know, I really do. Now, I got one of those phone calls…they told me my wife and daughter were dead on a tractor trailer when I was a young senator,” Biden said as he explain he also lost his eldest son Beau Biden to brain cancer.
