New Audio Reveals Trump Pressured Michigan Election Workers Not to Certify

A newly-discovered audio recording from 2020 reportedly reveals that former President Donald Trump pressured two Republican canvassers in Wayne County, Michigan not to certify the 2020 election.

The Detroit News published quotes from the audio recording on Thursday, which reportedly showed Trump and Republican National Committee (RNC) chairwoman Ronna McDaniel promising to get the two canvassers attorneys if they refused to certify the results of the election.

“We’ve got to fight for our country,” Trump reportedly told canvassers Monica Palmer and William Hartmann in a phone call dated November 17, 2020. “We can’t let these people take our country away from us.”

According to The Detroit News reporter Craig Mauger, McDaniel told Palmer and Hartmann, “If you can go home tonight, do not sign it… We will get you attorneys.”

Trump reportedly reassured the two canvassers, “We’ll take care of that.”

The Detroit News reported:

Palmer and Hartmann left the canvassers meeting without signing the official statement of votes for Wayne County, and the following day, they unsuccessfully attempted to rescind their votes in favor of certification, filing legal affidavits claiming they were pressured.

The moves from Palmer, Hartmann and Trump, had they been successful, threatened to throw the statewide certification of Michigan’s 2020 election in doubt.

Mauger told CNN anchor Erin Burnett, “We heard four minutes of what could be an up to 11-minute call, according to Verizon phone records that were previously obtained by the January 6th committee. We don’t know what was said during the entirety of the call.”
