Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) acknowledged in a humiliating social media post on Tuesday that even “uncommitted” and dropped-out candidates have “more appeal” to “Democratic Party loyalists” than him.
“Congratulations to Joe Biden, Uncommitted, Marianne Williamson, and Nikki Haley for demonstrating more appeal to Democratic Party loyalists than me,” wrote Phillips in a Super Tuesday post after picking up zero delegates and losing his home state of Minnesota to President Joe Biden.
“By Democratic loyalists, you mean ‘voters?'” questioned one social media user, while California Gov. Gavin Newsom commented, “Appreciate the self awareness. Tonight’s the night you should drop out and support our nominee, @JoeBiden.”
Phillips lost to “uncommitted” and Marianne Williamson – who dropped out of the race in February – in the majority of Democratic primaries on Tuesday.
In Virginia, Williamson beat Phillips by more than 15,000 votes, while Biden beat him by nearly 300,000.
In his home state of Minnesota, Phillips came third behind “uncommitted” – which received more than double the amount of votes – and Biden.
The results on Tuesday were just the latest blow to Phillips’ campaign, which finished in fourth place in Michigan last month behind both Williamson and “uncommitted.”
In February, Phillips suggested that he was open to the possibility of becoming Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s running mate on a “unity ticket” against both Biden and former President Donald Trump.
“I think it’s a conversation Ambassador Haley and I should have, if that’s what this comes down to,” he said.
