‘Defunding The Police!’ Dan Abrams Slams Speaker Johnson For Proposing Cuts To ‘Weaponized’ Federal Law Enforcement
NewsNation host and Mediaite founder Dan Abrams slammed House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for “defunding the police” by proposing cuts to federal law enforcement Republicans claim is “weaponized.”
Abrams played video of Johnson’s announcement:
We also advanced, as you’ve seen the summary, cuts to some of the agencies that we believe are really overreaching and have been turned in some ways against the American people. We’re going to cut 3% from DOJ, 7% from the ATF, 6% from the FBI, and 10% from the EPA. And that’s just a start.
“Just a start! Just a start on effectively ‘defunding the police’ because they claim the DOJ is out to get them,'” Abrams exclaimed.
He then listed “numerous Democrats” who have been prosecuted by Biden’s DOJ, including Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), New York Mayor Eric Adams (D), and the president’s son, Hunter Biden.
“But you see, focusing on all of this — that might throw a wrench into the narrative the DOJ is just out to get Republicans, an argument that just seems more far fetched by the week, as prominent Democrats continue to get busted by an FBI which is supposedly doing their bidding,” Abrams said.
Abrams played video of FBI Director Christopher Wray testifying before Congress in October, saying, “The idea that I, as a Republican appointee and lifelong Republican, is biased in the way that you are describing makes absolutely no sense.” Abrams then continued:
I think the idea the FBI led by him is now targeting Republicans does make absolutely no sense. And the new charges against Sen. Menendez just further prove the point. This is not in any way a defense of any of the criminals or potential criminals who happen to be Democrats.
I support law enforcement. I often give them the benefit of the doubt that many on the left had not been willing to give them, and now they’ve been joined by some on the right. If you’re going to accuse local or federal law enforcement of being corrupt — and that’s what the allegation is here — boy, you better have the goods to back it up. And it’s becoming clearer by the day: this never made any sense. And many of those pushing it have to know it by now.
