Dem Senator On Fox News: 57% of MAGA Support Extending Obamacare Tax Credits

In a Friday appearance on Fox News, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) said that “57% of people who identify themselves as MAGA republicans” support an extension of Obama-era tax credits for those who buy their own health insurance through the ACA Marketplace.

The statistic comes from a new poll published on Friday by the Kaiser Family Foundation, which found that 78% of all adults support Congress in extending these tax credits, along with 57% of MAGA Republicans.

“This is an issue that matters not just to people who are Democrats or independents, but to Republicans as well,” said Shaheen, appearing live from Capitol Hill as she and her colleagues worked to reach an agreement to end the ongoing government shutdown.

The shutdown began on Wednesday, “triggered in part by disagreements about whether, how, and when to extend the expiring tax credits,” according to KFF. President Donald Trump’s administration has maintained that Democrats are to blame.

“If we do nothing, a number of studies have pointed out — including the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office — that the cost of premiums is going to double for most of the people who are getting those credits,” Shaheen said. “Over 70% of people who benefit from these premium tax credits are in states that President Trump won in the election.”

“The way to fix this is to work across the aisle with our Republican colleagues and come to a reasonable fix that addresses their concerns, that addresses our concerns, and that makes sure people can still afford their health insurance,” she concluded.
