Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, spoke at The New York Times DealBook Summit on Wednesday and confirmed to the crowd that he’d been in talks with Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley. Not only that, he was also trying to get other business leaders on board to support her in 2024.
Puck News’ Teddy Schliefer posted the news on Twitter/X on Wednesday amid growing support for the former United Nations Ambassador and governor of South Carolina. Haley has been picking up steam, not just in polls but in support from other business leaders. She recently got the endorsement of the Koch-backed super PAC Americans for Prosperity Action, which is focused on finding a GOP alternative to former President Donald Trump.
Trump railed against the endorsement in a fundraising message, calling the PAC “a corrupt network of globalist RINO donors” and “backstabbers.”
As for Dimon, he covered other topics at the summit, including what he would do if he, hypothetically, was to run for president. He told investor Bill Ackman: “The biggest policy issue is the foreign policy stuff. I would double down on diplomacy, development finance. That is the biggest thing for the free world for the next 100 years.”
While Dimon said back in June that he has no plans to run, if this is a priority for him, Haley definitely has the foreign policy cred that separates her from other GOP candidates.
