Former President Donald Trump maintains a narrow lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in all but one swing state, but she still is outperforming President Joe Biden overall.
Earlier this week, the president announced he would be dropping out of the 2024 November race and endorsed Harris after growing pressure from his own party to step aside amid falling poll numbers after his disastrous CNN debate against Trump.
According to Emerson College Polling and The Hill, Trump leads Harris by five points in Arizona, two points in Georgia, one point in Michigan, two points in Pennsylvania, and is tied in Wisconsin.
Regardless, Harris is polling at a close margin to Trump than Biden in key battleground states when compared to a similar survey taken earlier this month. In every state, Trump’s lead over Harris is well within the margin of error except in Arizona.
The Hill and Decision Desk HQ have Trump leading Harris on average nationally by 48 percent to 46 percent. Previously, Trump was leading Biden by 47 percent to 43 percent.
Following Biden’s announcement, the president endorsed his former running mate along with Democratic congressional leadership and former President Bill Clinton. According to a report by CNN, former President Barack Obama’s endorsement is expected shortly.
“Harris has recovered a portion of the vote for the Democrats on the presidential ticket since the fallout after the June 27 debate,” said Spencer Kimball, the executive director of Emerson College Polling in a statement. “Harris’s numbers now reflect similar support levels to those of Biden back in March.”
“Young voters have shifted toward Harris: Her support increased by 16 points in Arizona, eight in Georgia, five in Michigan, 11 in Pennsylvania, and one in Wisconsin since earlier polling this month,” he added.
