A former friend and colleague of Andrew Cuomo published a blistering personal account accusing the former New York Governor — and current mayoral candidate — of insisting on giving a 72-year-old mother a foot massage that resulted in his hands “above her knees” and “under her dress”.
Karen Hinton, who has known Cuomo since 1995 and worked with him for five years during the Clinton administration, describes a previously unreported incident from 2007, where Cuomo, then New York Attorney General, allegedly inappropriately touched the mother of a mutual friend under the pretenses of offering support during her son’s addiction crisis.
She describes how the now 90-year-old had welcomed Cuomo into her home when the former governor began to brag about his foot massage capabilities, saying he wanted to help “make things easier” for her.
“Cuomo’s hands moved up higher from her feet. Onto her calves. Then above her knees, nearing her thighs, under her dress,” before the mother asked Cuomo to leave.
Hinton, who is the author of the 2021 book Penis Politics, alleged in the same year that Cuomo made unwanted sexual advances towards her in 2000, when he was U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
She went on to throw her hat in the ring for Queens assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, who recently defeated Cuomo in the Democratic mayoral primary, calling him a “young, smart, and vibrant” leader offering real plans for affordability and safety in New York City.
She argues Cuomo embodies “the old way of doing business in City Hall,” and highlights the ongoing civil harassment charges filed by two of the eleven women who have accused the former governor of wrongdoing.
“He promised over and over that he would be a better man, but that never happened.”
