‘I Have Not Been Poisoned’: Chris Christie Assures Nikki Haley It’s Safe to Call Trump Out by Name

Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie assured his rival Nikki Haley that it is safe to call out former President Donald Trump by name, as he had not yet been poisoned for doing so.

During a town hall at Concord, New Hampshire on Thursday, Christie declared, “The frontrunner in this race is Donald Trump. I just said his name out loud and lightning did not strike me. I did not fall dead of a heart attack. I have not been poisoned by a member of his staff.”

He continued:

But you would think, when you look at the rest of the folks in this race, that they fear that’s what would happen if they said his name.

I saw a new TV ad today out from Governor Haley, and this is what she says, “We have to leave behind the chaos and drama of the past.” What? What’s that mean exactly, Governor? Why not say it? He’s not Voldemort from the Harry Potter books. He’s not he who shall not be named.

No, this is trying to have it both ways. She doesn’t want to offend people who have supported Donald Trump, so she says things like in South Carolina three days ago, “He was the right president at the right time, but for some reason, drama and chaos follow him wherever he goes.” As if he is an innocent victim.

Haley, who served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, has been less enthusiastic than some of her rivals to call out Trump by name since the launch of her 2024 presidential campaign.

The New York Post reported on Monday that while the pro-Haley Stand For America super PAC had dedicated more than $3.5 million to attacking Republican primary rival Ron DeSantis over the past few months, it had spent $0 on ads attacking Trump – the overwhelming frontrunner – by name.

Trump, meanwhile, has increasingly ramped up his attacks on “Birdbrain” Haley as she moves closer in the polls toward second place.
