Jeanine Pirro Attempts Damage Control After Being Shredded by the Right Over Her Gun Comments

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro spent Tuesday morning in damage control mode after she invoked the fury of Second Amendment advocates with comments she made threatening to “jail” anyone who brings a gun into Washington D.C.
During an interview Monday with her former Fox News colleague Martha MacCallum about a recent decrease in crime in D.C., Pirro bragged about her office “taking guns off the street,” so that “those guns cannot be used in homicides, or assaults with deadly weapons, or in any kind of carjacking, or any kind of robbery.”
“You bring a gun into the district, you mark my words, you’re going to jail,” Pirro added. “I don’t care if you have a license in another district, and I don’t care if you are a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else, you bring a gun into this district, count on going to jail, and hope you get the gun back — and that makes all the difference.”
Her comments drew a swift and loud condemnation from the right, with numerous gun rights advocates and organizations shredding her for what they described as “moronic” and a betrayal of President Donald Trump’s claims to support the Second Amendment.
Tuesday morning, Pirro attempted to quell the outrage with a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Let me be clear: I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment,” she wrote. “Washington, D.C. law requires handguns be licensed in the District with the Metropolitan Police Department to be carried into our community. We are focused on individuals who are unlawfully carrying guns and will continue building on that momentum to keep our communities safe.”
Her post got a fairly hostile reception; the majority of the replies and quote tweets were from conservatives expressing deep skepticism or liberals mocking her and Trump’s MAGA supporters.
Pirro tried again a few hours later with a video that was captioned “[a] message to my fellow gun owners…put your safety back on.”
“Good morning everyone, I’m here in the office and some people are concerned about something I said yesterday, so I want to be crystal clear,” said Pirro in the one-minute video clip.
She continued:
I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment. I have guns myself: long guns, hand guns, and I’m a proud high-heeled gun owner. In fact, I even keynoted an NRA convention.
However, you need to be responsible, and every responsible gun owner that I know makes sure that they understand the laws where they are going, and understands whatever registration requirements there might be.
President Trump’s goal here, and my goal as well, is to make sure that we take guns out of the hands of criminals. There is a reason that we have the lowest homicide rate in recorded history. We’re taking guns off the street — illegal guns in the hands of criminals who wanna use those guns to victimize law-abiding citizens.
There’s a big difference here: you’re responsible, you follow the laws, you’re not gonna have a problem with me.
