Joy Reid’s MSNBC Blog Slams Hillary Clinton’s ‘Cruelty’ In Opposing Ceasefire in Gaza

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton drew the ire of Joy Reid’s MSNBC blogger Ja’han Jones this week after Clinton vocally opposed a ceasefire in Gaza.

Jones, who is The ReidOut Blog writer, tore into Clinton’s recent comment, saying, “People who are calling for a cease-fire now do not understand Hamas; that is not possible.”

“It would be such a gift to Hamas because they would spend whatever time there was a cease-fire in effect rebuilding their armaments, you know, creating stronger positions to be able to fend off an eventual assault by the Israelis,” Clinton added Sunday during a panel discussion at Rice University’s Baker Institute.

Jones’s blog denounced Clinton’s argument as promoting “incredible cruelty” in the title of his blog post. He wrote, “I can think of hundreds of thousands of people in the Gaza Strip who aren’t members of Hamas and would surely welcome a cease-fire.”

“So my response to the claim that people who want a cease-fire don’t understand the militant group is that, with all due respect, Clinton doesn’t appear to understand people. Or the resentment they can foster,” he argued.

Jones also slammed Clinton for appearing on a panel of three former secretaries of state that included Henry Kissinger.

“When U.S. elites are co-headlining events with infamous Vietnam War architect Henry Kissinger and telling us why bombing must continue in the Middle East, it seems like a sign they’re getting too comfortable with wartime casualties,” Jones concluded.

“Like a boomerang, sending cruelty out into the world can come right back,” Jones ended.

On Thursday dozens of Columbia students reportedly walked out of Clinton’s class in protest. The Guardian reported the students were protesting the “university’s alleged role in the ‘shaming’ of pro-Palestinian demonstrators” – referring to photos of students being taken off the university’s student portal. Those photos were then placed on “video screens on trucks parked near the university campus above the words ‘Columbia’s biggest antisemites.’”

Columbia has become a hotbed of student protests since the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel, which killed some 1,500 people and began the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Thousands of civilians have since died in Gaza as a result of Israeli bombings as both sides continue to exchange fire.
