Kristi Noem Says She Hopes to ‘Eliminate’ Antifa ‘From Existence’
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Wednesday vowed to eliminate Antifa “from existence” during a roundtable about the left-wing movement.
President Donald Trump was joined by his Cabinet in the White House Wednesday afternoon to discuss the way in which they’re combating Antifa. In late September, Trump signed an Executive Order designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. As noted in a report from BBC, however, the government has previously determined that Antifa — short for anti-fascist — was “better defined as an ideology than as a formal organization.” The report specifically noted a lack of leadership or membership structure.
Nevertheless, the Trump administration remains adamant on dismantling the “anarchist enterprise” that it has accused of “calls for the overthrow of the United States Government.”
During Tuesday’s roundtable, Noem explicitly stated her hopes to eliminate the supposed group completely.
“One of the individuals we arrested recently in Portland was the girlfriend of one of the founders of Antifa,” Noem said, “and that we are hoping that as we go after her, interview her and prosecute her. We will get more and more information about the network and how we can root them out, and eliminate them from the existence of American society.”
