‘Lindsey Liked War’: Trump Notes Graham’s Penchant for Conflict During Fox News Interview

President Donald Trump said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was a big fan of war during a Tuesday morning phone interview on Fox News.

The president called into Fox & Friends to pay tribute to the late senator, hours before his memorial service in Washington, D.C., and was asked about the Iran war by co-host Brian Kilmeade — a war Graham supported.

“I mean, Lindsey liked war, to be honest with ya, OK? I said, ‘You’re a nice guy, how come you like war so much?’ He was a guy that liked war,” Trump said. “I jokingly say — and there’s nothing funny about it — but he’s never seen a war he didn’t like. He was very much into that. And you know, for good reasons he felt that way.”

Co-Host Ainsley Earhardt noted Graham’s sister Darline Graham Nordone — whom Trump has endorsed to fill her brother’s Senate seat — recently told Sean Hannity, “He didn’t love war, he loved peace and the end of war. But sometimes war is necessary.” Trump did not push back, and Earhardt moved onto asking him another question about the Iran war.

Trump’s comment came a moment after he said Graham had pivoted to being more open to a deal to end the war with Iran, rather than completely wiping out its theocratic regime.

“Very interesting with Lindsey, he was very much a hawk, as you would say, on Iran,” Trump said. “And over the last few weeks, I would say that he became like, if you could make a deal, it’s better making a deal in this case than just destroying the rest of the country. We’ve destroyed most of it, frankly.”

Trump said Graham did not necessarily feel the same way about wrapping up the Ukraine-Russia war, though. He said Graham was a “militant” supporter of Ukraine, after having returned from a trip to the war-ravaged country the day before his death at the age of 71 earlier this month.

The senator was one of Trump’s closest allies in Congress and had fully backed the president’s war against Iran.

He urged the president to attack the country before Operation Epic Fury was launched in February — and even had “Make Iran Great Again” hats made in an obvious nod to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” rallying cry.

Graham predicted in June Trump would “obliterate” Iran if the country’s theocratic leaders dared mess with the Strait of Hormuz.
