Marjorie Taylor Greene Denounces ‘Threats Against the President’ After Democrat Says ‘We Will Fight Back’ Against Trump
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) admonished Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) over “threats” that came in the form of comparing President Donald Trump to a king and pledging to “fight back.”
On Wednesday, the Subcommittee on Delivering Government Efficiency convened for a hearing titled, “America Last: How Foreign Aid Undermined U.S. Interests Around the World.” The meeting came in the wake of the gutting of the U.S. Agency for International Development at the hands of Elon Musk and his “Department of Government Efficiency.”
Greene chairs the DOGE subcommittee, which is the legislative companion of Musk’s organization. Stansbury, its ranking member, blasted Trump over the thousands of federal employees he and Musk dismissed from their jobs. In some instances, Trump and Musk have also frozen congressionally appropriated funds.
“I know that Donald Trump thinks that he’s a king because on social media, of course, he keeps repeating this,” Stansbury said. “But let me say this to you, Mr. Trump. Two hundred and fifty years ago, the people of this great nation rejected a reckless, abusive king. And we won’t go back. And for the thousands of federal workers out there… we stand with you. We are fighting for you. We are in the courts. We are in Congress. We are in our communities. And we will hold this administration accountable, and we will not abandon our allies or our humanity. So with that, I say to all of you, be strong. We will fight back.”
After she concluded, Greene insinuated that Stansbury had somehow threatened Trump.
“I now recognize myself for closing remarks,” she said. “And threats against the president of the United States will not be tolerated by anyone.”
