Mark Meadows testified before a grand jury that he told former President Donald Trump that his claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election were “baseless,” but they still tried to overturn the election, according to ABC News.

ABC cited unnamed sources saying the former White House chief of staff testified against Trump in exchange for immunity.

Trump is under indictment in Georgia over his attempt to subvert the 2020 election results in the state, which he lost.

ABC’s Jonathan Karl tweeted on Tuesday:

“Mark Meadows has testified before a grand jury in exchange for immunity — according to sources familiar with the former chief of staff’s conversations with the Special Counsel.

“Meadows told prosecutors he he agreed the 2020 election was the most secure in American history and that he repeatedly told Trump in the weeks after the election that the allegations of significant voting fraud coming to them were turning out to be baseless.”

Meadows faces two felony counts in the Georgia under the state’s RICO statute in a case brought by Fulton County D.A. Fani Willis.

CBS reporter Catherine Herridge posted a statement from Meadows’ lawyer, disputing ABC’s report.

“‘I told ABC that their story was largely inaccurate. People will have to judge for themselves the decision to run it anyway.’ George Terwilliger, Mark Meadows lawyer, to CBS News, responding to new reporting ‘Ex-Chief of Staff granted immunity, tells special counsel he warned Trump about 2020 claims: Sources’
