Mike Pence Confronted About Fauci’s Lab Leak Assurances on Fox News: ‘Do You Think He Lied to You?’

Former Vice President Mike Pence told Fox News on Monday he has a hard time grappling with the fact Dr. Anthony Fauci repeatedly “assured” him Covid-19 could not have originated in a Chinese lab during their time working together in the White House.

Pence talked to America’s Newsroom about Fauci, a week after the doc’s pandemic diary was published.

“What’s most troubling to me was, I lost count of the number of times in the situation room where I asked Dr. Fauci that it might be possible that it came from a lab leak in Wuhan,” Pence said. “And he assured me over and over again — even with other virologists at the table taking a different view — that [it] couldn’t have come from a lab.”

“Do you think he lied to you?” America’s Newsroom co-host Dana Perino asked.

Pence did not answer her question directly.

“I don’t know what the source of it was. I wrote about it in my book about four years ago — I always suspected that it came from a lab. I’m troubled by the fact that we haven’t to this day held China accountable for a virus that cost the lives of millions of people around the world.”

His comments come after it was revealed Fauci did not believe the theory the virus originated in a Chinese wet market; Fauci shot the theory down early in the pandemic.

“Now we know the market was not the source, it was the amplifier,” Fauci wrote a January 2020 diary entry. “Having said that, somewhere the virus jumped from animals to humans.”

Fauci’s diary was published late last month by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who then spearheaded a congressional hearing last week in which Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times. The doctor refused to answer questions about his time leading the government’s response to Covid, as well as questions on whether Bill Gates partnered with China’s communist government on “sensitive research”; he also declined to answer simpler questions, like what color tie he was wearing.

“Do you think in hindsight that he was protecting his own policies?” co-host Bill Hemmer asked on Monday.

Pence said he was “very disappointed” Fauci took the Fifth so many times last week, and added, “I can understand why people would speculate that, with the gain-of-function investments that NIH had made internationally, including in China.”
