Nancy Mace’s Ex-Comms Director Loses It on Her ‘Laughable’ Old Boss

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has been the subject of much criticism since she teamed up with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a small band of Republican rebels, and the entirety of the Democratic caucus to take the speaker’s gavel away from Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

And now, her critics include her ex-communications director Natalie Johnson, who mocked Mace’s attempts to defend and fundraise off of the role she played in facilitating McCarthy’s ouster.

On Wednesday, Mace told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that she will “often make my decisions on my own volition, I don’t take pressure from the outside world or outside groups generally. I’m not beholden to anyone, anywhere, not in D.C. — I’m only beholden to the people — and I make decisions on legislation on votes generally on my own.”

“This is laughable considering she had ‘What Would Club for Growth Do?’ notes taped throughout the office to guide the leg team back in 2021.” commented Johnson, referring to the conservative interest group known to involve itself in Republican primaries.

Johnson again bristled at her old boss after Mace posted an Instagram story linking to her website with the caption “I’m not going to bend the knee to DC.”

“Lady, you bought a multimillion dollar home a block from the Capitol within six months of getting elected and then lied to press about living in your office. Please,” replied Johnson.

Mace has been plagued by staffing issues since entering Congress in 2021. Ex-staffers have attributed those issues to the way that Mace and her senior staff “treat people.”

“It’s toxic; it’s corrosive — the whole environment,” explained one former member of the Mace team.
