National Guard Makes Arrests Outside Newsom Presser After He Vowed: ‘WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED’

Federal immigration officials detained at least one person outside of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) speech on Thursday discussing Texas’s push to redistrict its congressional map, according to local news.
Newsom’s office posted images of ICE agents outside the event and wrote, “TRUMP’S PRIVATE ARMY IS ILLEGALLY ON PRIVATE PROPERTY!!!! WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THIS WEAK LITTLE MAN!!!”
U.S. Border Patrol Sector Commander Gregory K. Bovino spoke to NBCLA and told the outlet that they were “conducting roving immigration enforcement patrols in the area and one person was taken into custody.” The report added that video filmed in the area showed “masked U.S. Border Patrol agents” taking a man into custody near several federal buildings in the area, one of which includes a detention center.
Newsom’s event included several other high-profile Democrats as the governor tries to rally his party to stand up to Trump. “Right outside, at this exact moment, dozens and dozens of ICE agents” are patrolling, Newsom told the crowd, adding, “Donald Trump, you think it’s coincidental? Donald Trump’s minions, Tom Homan, decided this was a location they’d advance.”
“Donald Trump, you have poked the bear. We will punch back,” Newsom promised.
Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) also spoke at the event and added, “Trump, it’s all about spectacle. Guess what? California is not going to be intimidated.”
“There is no way this was a coincidence,” LA Mayor Karen Bass said during her speech at the event. “There was no reason in the world for them to come here. This is a complete provocation. This has nothing to do with safety. This is the exact opposite of keeping our city safe.”
