National Security Advisor Mike Waltz Claims Zelensky’s Team Was ‘Practically In Tears’ After Trump Clash: ‘Did His Country A True Disservice’

President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor Mike Waltz told Fox News on Saturday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s team was “practically in tears” following a tense exchange with Trump and Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office.

Waltz joined Fox’s Charlie Hurt and detailed what happened after the verbal dustup at the White House where Trump and Vance both insisted to Zelensky’s face that he needs to change his “attitude” and be more grateful if he wants to make a ceasefire deal with Russia happen as Ukraine continues fighting off an invasion.

Waltz denied accusations from critics that the meeting was an “ambush” of Zelensky. The national security advisor and Secretary of State Marco Rubio both asked Zelensky to leave the White House after the meeting, according to Waltz.

“Any further engagement would only go backwards,” Waltz recalled telling Zelensky on Friday.

Waltz told Hurt a lunch and a signing of a “critical minerals deal” was planned for the day, but did not move forward. Waltz accused Zelensky of doing his country a “disservice” and insulting the White House. The national security advisor claimed Zelensky’s advisor and ambassador were “practically in tears” after the meeting.

Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, went viral after cameras caught her reacting to the White House meeting at one by putting her head down and covering her face.

Check out the exchange below:

CHARLIE HURT: “When you explained to Zelensky he was leaving the White House without lunch and that important signing, did he look surprised? Did he seem to recognize what had happened?”

MIKE WALTZ: “No, he didn’t, frankly. His team did. His ambassador and his advisor were practically, I mean, they were practically in tears, wanting this to move forward, but Zelensky was still argumentative and finally what I said, I said, look, mr. president, time is not on your side here. Time is not on your side on the battlefield, time is not on your side in terms of the world situation, and most importantly, US aid and the taxpayers’ tolerance is not unlimited. I think he is used to hearing, actually I know he is used to hearing that as long as it takes, as much as it takes, blank check, and the United States really doesn’t have much of a say. You can determine the outcome of all of this, that is what we heard for years from Biden and his team and he has not gotten the memo that this is a new sheriff in town, this is a new president, and we are determined to take a new approach towards peace.”

HURT: “A truly astonishing obliviousness to the real politics on the ground. Col. Mike Waltz, thank you so much for joining us.”

WALTZ: “I think he did his country a true disservice. And who is opposed to peace? If you disagree with how we’re going to end the war, fine, but you do that behind closed doors, not the way this was done. It was wholly unacceptable.”
