Putin Points to His Ear When Reporter Calls Out ‘Will You Stop Killing Civilians?’

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a peculiar gesture when a reporter asked him if his army would stop killing Ukrainian civilians.

Putin on Friday arrived in Anchorage, Alaska for a summit with President Donald Trump. Ahead of the high-stakes meeting, the two departed their respective planes and greeted one another with a handshake. The men then walked down a red carpet and onto a small stage to stand for photos. Although the presidents did not say a word to the crowd in front of them, members of the press shouted out several questions.

“President Putin, will you agree to a ceasefire?” one reporter said.

“Mr. President, what’s your message to Vladimir Putin?” another reporter said.

Putin and Trump continued their own dialogue while ignoring the questions shouted out to them.

“Mr. Putin, did you underestimate Ukraine?” the first reporter said.

Still, Putin said nothing.

“President Putin, will you stop killing civilians?” the reporter asked.

This time, Putin did appear to acknowledge the question. The Russian president pointed to his ear and then shrugged — perhaps suggesting he couldn’t hear or understand what was being asked.

The leaders didn’t appear to exchange words with one another before making their way to Trump’s motorcade to travel to the meeting.

Later, ABC’s Rachel Scott asked Putin the same question during a photo op before the meeting began. Putin again did not respond.
