The Senate confirmed Jeanine Pirro as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia on Saturday evening in a strict party-line 50-45 vote.
Two Democratic and three Republican senators did not vote.
President Donald Trump appointed Pirro to the position in an interim capacity in May.
Pirro was a co-host of The Five on Fox News until her appointment. Previously, she hosted the weekend show Justice with Judge Jeanine from 2011 to 2022. A former Westchester County judge and district attorney, Pirro was an ardent supporter of Trump’s at Fox, where she repeated baseless and debunked claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.
Her show was canceled after she became a central figure in Dominion Voting Systems’ lawsuit against Fox News.
Her appointment was widely ridiculed by liberals.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) denounced her as a “political zealot” who is unfit for the position.
“The reason I’m worried is that she’s a politician,” he said at the time. “And there’s nothing wrong with being a politician, but she is a zealot. And there is nothing wrong being a zealot, but to have a political zealot in a prosecutorial role is dangerous because they can use the office to go after political adversaries or opponents.”
Meanwhile, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes played a montage of some of Pirro’s more unhinged moments on Fox News.
“I’m just gonna say this straight up,” Hayes said. “Game recognize game. The woman is a good talker, straight up. She’s very good at doing that.”
Shortly after taking her position as acting U.S. Attorney, Pirro posted a video from her office to complain about the drinking water situation.
“[T]he U.S. attorneys, as well as the staff, in order to get water, they have to join a water club and they have to pay,” she said. “Today there was no water delivered to the United States Attorney’s Office. And remember, it’s only for those who pay $7 a month. Now, ain’t it grand to be a part of the government, and I’m just thrilled to be here.”
