Former President Donald Trump appeared to post talking points regarding climate change and the economy ahead of his Thursday night debate with President Joe Biden – the key election event of the year so far.
The talking points were from former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Trump shared them without comment to his Truth Social platform.
Wheeler suggests Trump say during the debate, “Under my Administration, CO2 emissions went down, and at the same time we became more American energy dominate which helps Americans at the gas pump and with their electricity bills. We can do both. Biden just increased the energy costs for everyone.”
“Biden also rejoined the Paris Climate Accord, all that does is send American dollars overseas to benefit other countries like China. Because of Biden’s climate and tariff policies everyone is buying Chinese solar panels instead of American energy,” read another bullet point from Wheeler, adding:
Under my Administration we will continue to reduce CO2 and focus on American made energy.
If you get push back during rebuttal and you need another point:
Joe Biden is shutting down US energy, canceling pipelines, stopping federal leases. We still need the energy. That means we are importing more energy from countries that aren’t our friends. When you transport gas halfway around the world, it means more CO2 emissions.
Notably, energy production in the U.S. has hit record highs under the Biden administration.
The Hill also offered some context for the talking points, noting that “Those arguments are a marked departure from Trump’s historical rhetoric on climate change simply by virtue of acknowledging the relationship between it and greenhouse gas emissions. The former president has repeatedly falsely claimed climate change is a “hoax” and has vowed to wind back regulations on the fossil fuel industry.”
