Trump Boasts the New Owners of CBS Are ‘Friends of Mine’ — And Swipes at Norah O’Donnell

President Donald Trump spoke to reporters aboard Air Force One and made clear he has high hopes that the new owners of CBS News will remake the network into something he will like.

The White House released audio of Trump’s press gaggle on Sunday, during which he praised Larry and David Ellison, the father-son duo that now owns Paramount, CBS’s parent company. Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle, is a close ally of Trump and is taking part in the U.S.-backed takeover of TikTok, a deal brokered by the Trump administration.

“He’s doing pretty well, huh? So who’s going to be the head anchor at CBS?” Trump quipped at one point during the gaggle.

“Not Norah O’Donnell. I don’t believe it. I don’t believe it,” Trump added, referring to CBS’s evening news anchor.

“You know, there’s a story that they’re gonna—I dunno,” Trump added as a reporter could be heard asking, “What do you think about Bari Weiss?”

“Well, I tell you what, Larry Ellison is great, and his son David is great. They’re friends of mine. They’re big supporters of mine. And they’ll do the right thing. They’re gonna make CBS—hopefully they’ll, you know, they called it the Tiffany Network. And it’s got great potential. CBS has great potential. Thank you all, thank you. Thank you,” Trump concluded.

David Ellison announced last week that he had hired Bari Weiss as the new editor in chief of CBS News.
