Trump Endorses Kari Lake – Again

Kari Lake and Trump

Former President Donald Trump endorsed Kari Lake for U.S. Senate in a video message shortly after she declared her candidacy.

Lake ran for governor last year and received Trump’s endorsement during the primary. She went on to lose the general election to Democrat Katie Hobbs. The Republican insists the election was stolen from her and also that the 2020 presidential election was rigged against Trump.

The former president’s video message was played at Lake’s campaign kickoff event on Tuesday night. He said he wished he could be there but is “busy fighting off all the bad people,” presumably an allusion to the fact that he is under criminal indictment in four jurisdictions.

“We’re leading every poll by a lot,” he said. “And when I’m back in the White House, I need strong fighters like Kari in the Senate. She is a fighter. She’s strong. And she’s good. She’s got a great heart, by the way.”

Trump went on to brag about his four years as president and then called President Joe Biden “the worst president we’ve ever had.”

A former television anchor, Lake is running for the seat currently occupied by independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who left the Democratic Party last year, though she still caucuses with the Democrats. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D) is also running for the seat in what could be a three-way race.

Lake has seemingly been angling to be Trump’s vice presidential nominee in 2024.
