President Donald Trump fired off a missive against Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) on Thursday night, instructing her Republican colleagues to “vote the exact opposite.”
While Collins has occasionally irked Trump, she has largely backed his agenda. This term, however, Collins voted against the president’s “big, beautiful bill” and a recissions package that clawed back billions of dollars in foreign aid and funding for public broadcasting.
“Republicans, when in doubt, vote the exact opposite of Senator Susan Collins,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Generally speaking, you can’t go wrong. Thank you for your attention to this matter and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Collins voted to convict Trump at his second impeachment trial after declining to do so in the first. Collins defended her vote to acquit by saying she hoped the president had “learned” that it is improper to use congressionally appropriated foreign aid to get other countries to investigate his political opponents. She later admitted that it may not have been the case.
The Maine Republican has not said whether she will run for reelection in 2026, when she will be 73.
In a post right before he bashed Collins, Trump demanded that the Senate remain in session until all of his pending nominees are confirmed.
“The Senate must stay in Session, taking no recess, until the entire Executive Calendar is CLEAR!!!,” he wrote. “We have to save our Country from the Lunatic Left. Republicans, for the health and safety of the USA, DO YOUR JOB, and confirm All Nominees. They should NOT BE FORCED TO WAIT. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
