Trump Waxes Poetic About the ‘Gorgeous Paper’ He Signs for Generals in Wild Military Speech: ‘We Used to Sign a Piece of Garbage!’

President Donald Trump waxed poetic about the quality of the paper he uses for signatures during a rambling speech to military leaders on Tuesday.

Last week, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth called on hundreds of military leaders to travel to Quantico, Virginia for what appeared to be some kind of urgent meeting. On Tuesday morning, that meeting was revealed to essentially be a rally, with Hegseth giving a speech about the “warrior ethos,” and his mission to toughen up the Unites States’ armed forces. The secretary also railed against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and declared that the military was “done with that shit.”

Trump spoke after Hegseth. At one point in his length speech, the president praised the grade of paper that he uses:

When I have a general, and I have to sign for a general — because we have beautiful paper. They’re gorgeous paper. I said, throw a little more gold on it. They deserve it. Give me — I want the “A” paper, not the “D” paper. We used to sign a piece of garbage! I said, this man’s going to be a general, right? I don’t want to use this. I want to use the big, beautiful, firm paper. I want to use the real gold writing when you talk about the position, and they’re beautiful.

The president then pivoted to attacking former President Joe Biden.
