The Trump White House’s official “Rapid Response” account accused a Democratic mayor on Monday of “jeopardizing officers’ safety” by warning “criminal illegals” of ICE operations.

The post shared a clip from CBS News Pittsburgh that included an interview with Mayor Dontae Comans. “Wilkinsburg Mayor Dante Coman’s posted about it on his Facebook page,” began local CBS affiliate KDKA’s Mamie Bah in the clip, referring to Coman’s warning about ICE operations in his area.

Comans then replied to the reporter, saying, “Everyone here is you know, we’re family in Wilkinsburg and we just want to protect each other. We have ordinances that protect everyone no matter what part of life you’re from.”

“What do you say to people who say you shouldn’t be here illegally?” pressed Bah.

“I mean, that’s how this country started, you know, you got to start, you know, it’s all about getting that path to being a resident. And I felt like we need to help them,” replied the Pennsylvania mayor.

Comans’s Facebook post read, “URGENT COMMUNITY ALERT: ICE Activity Reported in Wilkinsburg Area. We have confirmed reports that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents are active in our community. Specifically, they’ve been seen around Penn Avenue and Wood Street in Wilkinsburg.” He went on to describe the vehicle that ICE was allegedly operating out of.

The White House account sharted the CBS clip and captioned it by writing, “Mayor Dontae Comans took to Facebook to warn criminal illegals of ICE operations — jeopardizing officers’ safety and pleading “to help” illegals evade arrest.”

Users on X were quick to call for Comans’s arrest, with one user writing, “This action taken by the mayor is TREASON! Why are acts of treason no longer a punishable offense?”
