SNL Skewers Trump’s Bible Sales: ‘I’m Doing This For The Glory of God…And Mostly Money!’
Saturday Night Live got into the Easter spirit by skewering former President Donald Trump’s fundraising strategy of selling $60 Bibles.
‘Look at this new Bible. Made from 100% Bible,” said actor James Austin Johnson’s Trump. “As you know, I love Bible. It’s my favorite book. I’ve definitely read it. My favorite part is probably the ending. How it all wraps up.”
The SNL Trump explained why he’s selling Bibles during the Easter season.
“This is a very special Bible. And it can be yours for the high, high, high price of $60. But I’m not doing this for the money. I’m doing this for the glory of God, and pandering, and mostly for money.”
And, of course, there’s his sales pitch:
“But you’re going to love my new and, I would say, even better Bible. It comes with everything you like from Bible. Like the story of Easter, which primarily concerns Jesus. Not so much the bunny. I kept waiting for the bunny to show up. He never showed up. That’s OK.”
Johnson’s Trump was sure to mention his Bible’s illustrations that included “Trump’s” face on the young, buff body of Adam at the Tree of Knowledge.
“And, here I am in the Garden of Eden with my actual body!” he claims. “You know, I think I’d be very good at saying, ‘No,’ to the snake, from the standpoint of not liking fruit.”
President Joe Biden has been running circles around Trump’s fundraising efforts, recently bringing in $26 million with a Radio City Music Hall event that included former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
According to The New York Times, “President Biden’s re-election campaign ended January with nearly $56 million on hand, extending his cash advantage over former President Donald J. Trump, whose campaign had about $30 million available at the end of the month.”
In addition to raising money for the campaign, Trump is drowning in legal bills from his myriad court cases. He’s currently on the hook for a $175 million bond in his New York civil fraud case, which was reduced from nearly half-a-billion dollars. And Trump made a $92 million bond in the E. Jean Carroll case of sexual assault that led to defamation. As such, Trump has turned to hocking various items like $399 gold sneakers, that featured in a previous SNL skit.
