It’s not an ambassadorship to Mexico, but Kari Lake will have a job in the administration of President-elect Donald Trump. Sort of.

On Wednesday night, Trump chose Lake to be the next director of Voice of America, the state media organization funded by the U.S. government.

Trump announced:

I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America. She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media.

Kari was a beloved News Anchor in Arizona, which supported me by record margins, for over 20 years.

Congratulations Kari!

The position is not subject to Senate confirmation. VOA falls under the U.S. Agency for Global Media, whose Senate-confirmed CEO typically appoints the head of the VOA.

On Monday, it was reported that Trump was considering her to be ambassador to Mexico.

Lake has been a staunch backer of the president-elect, who endorsed her 2022 Arizona gubernatorial bid and her 2024 U.S. Senate campaign. She lost both races and claimed the 2022 contest was rigged against her.

“We had major problems in our election, and we’re really working to resolve those problems,” she said. “We still have some court cases.”

Last year, Lake even insisted she was “the duly elected governor of Arizona.”
