Trump Pulls Hunter Biden’s Secret Service Detail After Reporter Tells Him About It: ‘Ridiculous!’
President Donald Trump yanked Hunter Biden’s Secret Service detail on Monday after a reporter informed him about it.
Under the law, the only children of former presidents who receive Secret Service protection are those under 16 years old. However, upon leaving office in 2021, Trump ordered an extra six months of protection for his four adult children and three outgoing White House officials, including former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
While taking questions from reporters on Monday, one unidentified person told Trump that former President Joe Biden’s son is in South Africa with Secret Service protection.
“There were 18 Secret Service agents protecting Hunter Biden in South Africa this weekend,” he said. “Who’s paying for that and do you plan to revoke the Secret Service protection?”
“Well, we have done that with many,” Trump replied. “I would say if there are 18 with Hunter Biden, that will be something I’ll look at this afternoon, ok? I just heard about it for the first time.”
Hours later, the president went on Truth Social to announce he is canceling the details for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden:
Hunter Biden has had Secret Service protection for an extended period of time, all paid for by the United States Taxpayer. There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous! He is currently vacationing in, of all places, South Africa, where the Human Rights of people has been strenuously questioned. Because of this, South Africa has been taken off our list of Countries receiving Economic and Financial Assistance. Please be advised that, effective immediately, Hunter Biden will no longer receive Secret Service protection. Likewise, Ashley Biden who has 13 agents will be taken off the list.
It is not clear if Trump is ending the details effective immediately.
On Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced he was expelling South Africa’s ambassador from the U.S. after the ambassador accused Trump of being a White supremacist.
