Former President Donald Trump reportedly went off on Attorney General Bill Barr for not backing up his baseless claims about the 2020 election.
Barr, you will recall, publicly stated on December 1st that the Justice Department has seen no evidence of “fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election.”
The former attorney general got candid with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, and in a report on their interviews that ran in The Atlantic Sunday, he called out Trump’s election “bullshit.”
Privately, Karl reports, after Barr made that December 1st statement, he met with Trump, who was fuming:
Trump brought up Barr’s AP interview.
“Did you say that?”
“Yes,” Barr responded.
“How the fuck could you do this to me? Why did you say it?”
“Because it’s true.”
The president, livid, responded by referring to himself in the third person: “You must hate Trump. You must hate Trump.”
Trump reportedly continued pushing baseless election claims in the meeting, though apparently Barr told him at one point his team’s antics were a “clown show.”
The former president has continued spreading those false claims for months, most recently at his Ohio rally Saturday night.
