Trump Ribs GOP Senate Candidate for Working at CNN: ‘Other Than That, He’s Been Great’

Former president and presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump ribbed Mike Rogers, a Republican candidate for Senate in Michigan, for working at CNN in between his tenure in the House of Representatives and his current campaign at an event in Grand Rapids on Tuesday.

“I want to really thank and congratulate, ’cause this guy has gone like a rocket ship, I’ve never seen anything — well, I have a couple of times, we’ve got a lot of people elected, those endorsements are pretty good — but you know, you still have to endorse the right person, otherwise it doesn’t work,” began Trump, touting the power of his endorsement in GOP primary contests. “And your next U.S. senator, Mike Rogers, who’s going to be fantastic wherever Mike is, wherever Mike is, there’s Mike, thank you, Mike. He was a great congressman. He was a tough guy, too.”

He continued:

He had one little sabbatical, he went to CNN for a little while, and it’s okay, you know. But other than that, he’s been great. Well, that’s good, because now you’ll get a few of the more moderate people, we’re being nice. But he’s a very respected person and he’s the one we wanted, he’s the one that decided to do it, and he’s going to be a fantastic, I think he’s going to be a fantastic U.S. senator: Always respected at the highest level. And he was always fair to us, too. When he was on, when he did his television thing, he was always fair. Strong, fair.

Rogers served as a congressman from 2001-2015 and and as the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee from 2011-2015 before being hired by CNN as a national security expert.

Trump endorsed his bid for the upper chamber of Congress in a post on Truth Social last month.

“Mike Rogers will be a Great and Powerful Senator for Michigan, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement,” declared Trump. “HE KNOWS HOW TO WIN!”
