Zing? Trump Trashes Michelle Obama Speech For, Among Other Things, Undercounting Coronavirus Death Toll
President Donald Trump leveled a lengthy attack against Michelle Obama from a White House podium, during which he oddly pointed out that the former first lady lowballed the amount of people who’ve died from the coronavirus under his administration’s watch.
Trump hosted an event at the White House on Tuesday in order to announce he will posthumously pardon Susan B. Anthony, the noted 19th century women’s suffrage advocate. At this time, Trump was asked for his response to Mrs. Obama’s DNC speech, in which she blasted his leadership and said “he is clearly in over his head” with the responsibilities of the presidency.
“She was over her head,” Trump responded before criticizing Mrs. Obama for taping her speech ahead of the convention.
“She had the wrong deaths, she didn’t even mention [Kamala Harris] in the speech,” Trump said. “She gets these fawning reviews. If you gave a real review, it wouldn’t be so fawning. I thought it was a very divisive speech, extremely divisive.”
It’s interesting that Trump chose to highlight the fact that Obama’s reference to the coronavirus’ body count was out of date by the time her speech aired. When the DNC released it on Monday night, Obama remarked that “more than 150,000 people have died, and our economy is in shambles because of a virus that this president downplayed for too long.”
As of this writing, the number of confirmed Covid-19 deaths in America has exceeded 170,000.
