Trump’s Energy Sec’s Confirmation Hearing Crashed By Climate Protesters — On His Birthday: ‘I’m 18 Years Old and I Want a Future!’
Chris Wright, President-elect Donald Trump’s Secretary of Energy nominee, spent part of his 60th birthday getting yelled at by climate change protesters at a Senate confirmation hearing.
Wright, along with Pam Bondi and Marco Rubio, answered questions on Wednesday as part of their confirmation processes. Bondi has been nominated for Attorney General, and Rubio for Secretary of State.
Wright’s opening statement on Wednesday, which is also his 60th birthday, was interrupted as he discussed investing in nuclear energy and driving down energy costs. The protester unfurled a flag and screamed about Los Angeles “burning” amid the Pacific Palisades fires, which have destroyed thousands of homes and killed dozens.
“CEOs are destroying communities like mine!” the woman yelled as she was removed from the room. What could be seen of her flag read “Big Oil” along with flames.
Another protester was removed after interrupting Wright answering a question.
“I’m 18 years old and I want a future!” the demonstrator yelled.
“May I suggest that the people who are protesting look at your monograph on building human lives because it shows that US emissions have come down an absolute amounts, per capita amounts, every way you want to measure it since 2000,” Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) said after the protester was removed from the hearing.
Rubio’s hearing was also interrupted by multiple protesters on Wednesday. One yelled about Rubio’s immigration views in Spanish to which Rubio touted that he gets “bilingual protesters.”
Pete Hegseth, Trump’s Secretary of Defense nominee, also faced hecklers on Tuesday during his confirmation hearing’s opening statement.
