WATCH: Ben & Jerry’s Co-Founder Gets Dragged Out of RFK Jr. Hearing in Wild Protest Scene
Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Ben Cohen was one of several protesters who were dragged out of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s hearing Wednesday.
Kennedy — President Donald Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary — fielded questions regarding his department’s budget. While Kennedy he was speaking, he was suddenly interrupted by someone shouting in the crowd. The secretary jolted up and immediately looked behind him as multiple security guards quickly descended on the protester.
“RFK kills people with AIDS,” the protester repeatedly shouted. She was also holding up a sign in Kennedy’s direction.
The first security guard to get to the protester tried to take down the sign before picking her up and carrying her out. Seconds later, a second protester who joined in the shouting was also carried out. Then, a third was escorted out much more peacefully.
Cohen then stood up to continue the group’s efforts after the others were taken out.
“Congress pays for bombs that kills kids in Gaza!” Cohen said.
He then said something along the lines of accusing Congress of using money from Medicaid cuts to arm Israel for its war in Gaza.
As Cohen was forcefully escorted out, he could be heard yelling off-camera, “Congress kills!”
When things were back under control, the chairman of the hearing joked that it was a “made-for-C-SPAN moment.”
A spokesperson for Cohen later released a statement, “We are expected to be good Americans and look the other way as Israel prevents food, water, and medicine from reaching the remaining people of Gaza. Israel is literally starving them to death… We will not look away. We will not be silenced. We will do everything we can to get our government to stop being complicit in starving little kids to death.”
