‘A Disgrace!’ ESPN’s Mike Breen Reports Celtics Fan Made ‘Inappropriate’ Comment to Kyrie Irving From the Crowd

ESPN play-by-play announcer Mike Breen revealed during Monday’s NBA Finals game that a Celtics fan made “inappropriate” comments to Kyrie Irving when he dove into the crowd.

With under a minute left in the first half, Irving tried stealing the ball from Celtics forward Derrick White. After poking the ball loose, he dove to save it from going out of bounds. The ball stayed inbounds, but it came at the cost of Irving falling into multiple fans and taking some time to get back up. Although the cameras didn’t catch it, Breen said Irving was upset with a fan as he got up.

“Irving was upset,” Breen said on air. “I couldn’t see who it was, but someone said something to him inappropriate while a guy’s down on the floor — which is a disgrace. And Irving bounces back up and gets out on the floor.”

For Irving, that treatment from Celtics fans isn’t new. Since leaving the team in 2019, Irving has essentially become public enemy no. 1 in the eyes of Celtics fans. In 2022, Irving fed into it when he gave fans the middle finger during a game. At the time, he was playing for the Brooklyn Nets.
