‘That’s Coming My Way!’ NBA Announcer Ian Eagle Gets Into the Action When a Bad Pass Heads Straight For Him
NBA play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle made what he considers the greatest call of his career when he caught an errant pass live on the broadcast Wednesday.
Eagle was on the sidelines for the Brooklyn Nets game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Early in the second quarter, newly-traded Clipper James Harden attempted to throw a pass from the corner and it simply got away from him. As soon as the ball left his hand, it was clear the ball was going out of bounds. Eagle announced on the broadcast that the ball was headed for him.
“Harden… That’s coming my way!” Eagle announced to viewers.
After nonchalantly saying, “I got it” with his catch, Eagle took some time to marvel at what he just pulled off.
“Unbelievable,” Eagle said before handing the ball to referee Ed Malloy. “I could see it from the beginning. Ed, you take over, my friend.
“That might’ve been my greatest call in NBA history. I knew it from the second it left his hand. Yep. Knew it.”
Though the call was impressive, it came at a cost. As the ball soared toward Eagle, it ended knocking over a couple drinks on the announcers table.
“I also have tea all over my lap,” Eagle admitted. “James Harden just said, ‘Hey, welcome back.'”
