WATCH: Yankees Fan Yells at Ump from Stands — Ump Mistakenly Ejects Yankees Manager Aaron Boone

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected Monday when the umpire heard a fan yelling and mistakenly thought it was him.

Just five pitches into Monday’s game against the Oakland Athletics, Boone was seen chirping at home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt. Thanks to Yankee Stadium being relatively empty during the day game, microphones picked up most of their back-and-forth.

When Boone argued something, Wendelstedt snapped his head around and said to Boone, “Hey, guess what? You’re not yelling at me! I did what I was supposed to do and check! I’m looking for him to get hit by the pitch! You got anything else to say, you’re gone!”

Boone obliged and simply stood at the top of the dugout steps in silence. Second later, with the camera still trained on Boone, Wendelstedt could be heard yelling, “You’re done!” A stunned Boone immediately raised his arms in disbelief. He then pointed to a fan sitting behind the dugout and tried to explain that it was the fan and not him. Wendelstedt said he didn’t care.

“What do you mean you don’t care?” Boone said as he approached the ump. “I did not say a word! It was above our dugout! Bullshit! I didn’t say anything! I did not say anything, Hunter! I did not say a fucking thing!”

Wendelstedt, however, made up his mind and stood by his decision to throw Boone out.

Additional angles clearly showed a man — wearing a blue shirt and a Yankees cap — yelling in Wendelstedt’s direction. Then, without even looking at where the voice came from, Wendelstedt took off his mask and immediately gave the gesture to eject Boone.
