Seven officers of the U.S. Capitol Police are suing Donald Trump and far-right organizations for the injuries they suffered when the former president’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.

The lawsuit accuses Trump and his allies incited the January 6th mob in an attempt to stop Congress from confirming President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory “through the use of force, intimidation, and threats.” Beyond Trump, the lawsuit is directed at 20 defendants including high-profile Trump supporters like Roger Stone and Ali Alexander, plus alt-right groups like the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers.

“Because of Defendants’ unlawful actions, Plaintiffs were violently assaulted, spat on, tear-gassed, bear-sprayed, subjected to racial slurs and epithets, and put in fear for their lives,” the lawsuit says. “Plaintiffs’ injuries, which Defendants caused, persist to this day…Many Defendants in this case planned, aided, and actively participated in that attack. All Defendants are responsible for it.”

The lawsuit is the fourth legal action of its type that have been brought against Trump in connection with the Capitol riot. It comes just after the January 6th investigative committee requested a trove of documents from federal agencies and Trump allies, asking for records of their communications before the riot.

Trump responded slamming the investigation as a “partisan shame” and an affront to executive privilege. Minor aside: the president is still spreading the election lies that fueled his supporters into storming the Capitol.
