Nikki Haley Resigns, Trump Officials Shocked
Nikki Haley, UN Ambassador, submitted her resignation to President Donald Trump last week, per reports. The president accepted.
Axios’s Jonathan Swan broke the news, reporting that the “timing of her departure is still unclear.”
Haley, who is widely admired by Republicans and seen as a tempering figure within the Trump administration, “discussed her resignation with Trump last week when she visited him at the White House,” sources told Axios. “Her news shocked a number of senior foreign policy officials in the Trump administration.”
Following Swan’s report, Fox News and CNN confirmed Haley’s resignation.
The report does not provide any indication as to what prompted Haley’s resignation, though it includes this curious tidbit of information:
Worth noting: Haley wrote a public op-ed in September challenging the N.Y. Times’ anonymous op-ed.
UPDATE 10:21 a.m.: Trump previewed a “big announcement” with Haley from the Oval Office imminently…
Big announcement with my friend Ambassador Nikki Haley in the Oval Office at 10:30am.
