‘That’s Bullsh*t’: MSNBC Plays Unaired Audio of Trump Denying ‘The Sickest Thing I’ve Ever Heard’

MSNBC played previously unaired audio of Donald Trump strenuously denying a claim by Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel, who said the former president threatened to leave the GOP.

The audio was furnished to the network by ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, who first reported the conversation in his book, Betrayal. On Monday’s Inside with Jen Psaki, the recording was played on air for the first time.

“[O]n his last day in office shortly after boarding Air Force One, Donald Trump spoke with Republican Party chair Ronna McDaniel and delivered some pretty uncomfortable news,” Jen Psaki said, recounting the scene from Karl’s book shortly after Trump left the White House. “He told McDaniel he was leaving the GOP and creating his own political party, threatening to destroy the Republican Party altogether.”

She then aired the audio from July 2021:

KARL: When you got on the plane, you got a call from Ronald McDaniel. Do you recall? Do you recall that phone conversation?

TRUMP: No.

KARL: Because you, you had–

TRUMP: What did she say?

KARL: That you–

TRUMP: What did she say?

KARL: That you told her you were gonna leave the Republican Party.

TRUMP: This is the sickest thing I’ve ever heard. I never said any such thing. You mean, I was gonna form another party or something?

KARL: Yes, yes.

TRUMP: Oh, that’s bullsh*t, ok? Never happened.

Trump is currently the runaway frontrunner to win the Republican presidential nomination next year, despite being under indictment in four jurisdictions – two of which stem from his attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, which he lost.
