Trump Attacks the NBA Following Jacob Blake Protest: ‘They’ve Become Like a Political Organization,’ TV Ratings Are ‘Very Bad’
President Donald Trump criticized the NBA on Thursday after its protest over the shooting of Jacob Blake, comparing the association to a “political organization.”
After being asked by a reporter for his reaction to the strike which resulted in the postponement of three playoff games Wednesday, Trump said, “I don’t know much about the NBA protest. I know their ratings have been very bad because I think people are a little tired of the NBA, frankly, but I don’t know too much about the protest.”
“I know their ratings have been very bad, and that’s unfortunate,” he continued, concluding, “They’ve become like a political organization, and that’s not a good thing. I don’t think that’s a good thing for sports or for the country.”
Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner also took a shot at the NBA on Thursday, commenting, “NBA players are very fortunate that they have the financial position where they’re able to take a night off from work without having to have the consequences to themselves financially.”
