Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump mangled the facts of two potential voter fraud cases in Pennsylvania in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday.

“Wow! York County, Pennsylvania, received THOUSANDS of potentially FRAUDULENT Voter Registration Forms and Mail-In Ballot Applications from a third party group,” wrote Trump in his post. “This is on top of Lancaster County being caught with 2600 Fake Ballots and Forms, all written by the same person. Really bad ‘stuff.’ WHAT IS GOING ON IN PENNSYLVANIA??? Law Enforcement must do their job, immediately!!! WOW!!!”

While it is true that there have been reports about possible electoral malfeasance in both York and Lancaster County, the former president did not accurately describe either case.

In the former case, county officials have said that they are reviewing thousands of voter registration forms and mail-in ballot applications from the third-party Field+Media Corps, a progressive political campaign firm. That process, however, is standard practice.

“As with all submissions, our staff follows a process for ensuring all voter registrations and mail-in ballot requests are legal. That process is currently underway. If suspected fraud is identified, we will alert the District Attorney’s Office, which will then conduct an investigation. We will have no further comment until our internal review has been completed,” explained York County President Commissioner Julie Wheeler in a statement.

“It’s not unusual to get large stacks of voter registrations or large stacks of requests for mail-in ballots, it’s just this was an overabundance of registrations from one particular organization,” Wheeler told a local Fox affiliate. “We’re in a phase now where we need to do our homework before we go and make accusations when we don’t have the data to back it up.”

Meanwhile, in Lancaster County, officials are investigating around 2,500 voter registration applications, not fake ballots.

“We have confirmed violation of our crimes code as well as our elections code. We have all available detectives working on this. We are all hands on deck so that we can properly assess the validity of these applications in a timely manner,” said District Attorney Heather Adams during a press conference last Friday.

Adamas also revealed that around 60% of the forms have already been confirmed to be fraudulent, others “appear to be legitimate,” per NBC News.

The forms were dropped off on October 21 by an as of yet unidentified “large-scale canvassing operation.”

Trump’s flubbing of the facts is notable given his his unfounded claims that he lost the 2020 presidential election due to large-scale voter fraud. Those claims ultimately culminated in an attempt to steal the election from the rightful winner, President Joe Biden, as well as the January 6 Capitol riot.
