Former President Donald Trump allegedly shared sensitive information about U.S. submarines with a foreign billionaire who went on to tell myriad other people, according to a bombshell story published by ABC News.
Sources told ABC News that Trump initially shared the secrets with an Australian billionaire who was a member of Trump’s Palm Beach club Mar-a-Lago. The businessman, Anthony Pratt, then allegedly shared with “more than a dozen foreign officials, several of his own employees, and a handful of journalists.” A former Mar-a-Lago employee reportedly said he was “bothered” and “shocked” that the former president shared the information so freely.
Pratt reportedly told prosecutors and FBI agents he brought up the topic of submarines with Trump, a subject the two had discussed previously. Reporters Katherine Faulders, Alexander Mallin, and Mike Levine wrote:
According to Pratt’s account, as described by the sources, Pratt told Trump he believed Australia should start buying its submarines from the United States, to which an excited Trump – “leaning” toward Pratt as if to be discreet – then told Pratt two pieces of information about U.S. submarines: the supposed exact number of nuclear warheads they routinely carry, and exactly how close they supposedly can get to a Russian submarine without being detected.
In emails and conversations after meeting with Trump, Pratt described Trump’s remarks to at least 45 others, including six journalists, 11 of his company’s employees, 10 Australian officials, and three former Australian prime ministers, the sources told ABC News.
Pratt also allegedly told investigators he couldn’t be sure if what Trump told him was real or “just bluster.”
Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team is reportedly looking into the allegations in connection with Trump’s classified documents case.
Representatives for neither Trump nor Pratt commented on the story to ABC News.
