ABC Panel Ignites When Chris Christie Accuses Biden of Folding to Progressives After ‘He Couldn’t Stand Up to the Taliban’

Donna Brazile and Chris Christie had a rousing tete-a-tete after the latter accused President Joe Biden of giving in first to the Taliban, then to progressive Democrats.

The former DNC chair and the Republican former New Jersey governor were on ABC’s This Week for a panel discussion on Biden’s attempts to get his infrastructure agenda through Congress. Jon Karl, who was subbing in for George Stephanopoulos, started by asking Brazile if Democrats are currently in a “circular firing squad,” given the party’s internal debates about government spending and the reconciliation bill.

Brazile rejected the notion that Democrats are in complete disarray with their “robust conversation,” plus she pointed to the fact that Biden and Congress agreed to a short-term spending bill to temporarily avoid a government shutdown. After Brazile touted the Democratic agenda and the panel analyzed the Congressional status quo, Christie eventually got in and pronounced the current squabble “the death of 2020 Joe Biden.”

Referring to Biden’s recent meeting with House Democrats to move his agenda along, Christie continued to hammer the president for supposedly submitting to the will of progressives.

When he went to the Hill, 2020 Joe Biden is now officially dead and buried. The guy who ran against the progressives, ran against Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, ran to be a uniter in this country, ran saying he was going to force compromise. And he went up to Capitol Hill, and he capitulated to the progressives, the liberals in his party. And why should we be surprised? He couldn’t stand up to the Taliban. How could we expect him to stand up to [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)]?

Christie’s Taliban comment drew groans from the table, with Karl saying “that’s a partisan take to be sure.”

“Did he stand up to the Taliban?” Christie retorted. “Why is that partisan? He hasn’t stood up to anyone except for the people in his own party who nominated him!”

Brazile countered by reminding Christie that it was former president Donald Trump and his administration that invited the Taliban to Camp David years ago to discuss the U.S.’ eventual withdrawal from Afghanistan. Christie shot back that Trump is no longer president, and that led to him and Brazile holding a slugfest on Biden’s impact on taxes, the economy, and a myriad of other issues.
