ABC’s Cecilia Vega to Spicer: Why Is Jared Kushner in Iraq and Not Tillerson?
— ABC News Politics (@ABCPolitics) April 3, 2017
During today’s White House press briefing, ABC News’ Cecilia Vega asked Sean Spicer about President Trump‘s son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner going to Iraq.
She asked, “Why is he there and not the Secretary of State today? What’s the message that the president is sending by having Jared Kushner be the one to take this trip?”
Spicer said “it’s not a binary choice,” pointing out that Kushner was not the only one who traveled to Iraq. He and White House homeland security advisor Tom Bossert accompanied General Joseph Dunford, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on the trip.
A statement earlier today from a Dunford spokesperson says that Kushner is there to “express the President’s support and commitment to the Government of Iraq and U.S. personnel currently engaged in the campaign”:
