Andrew Cuomo Battles Cynthia Nixon Over NY Subways in Fiery Gov Debate: She ‘Lives in the World of Fiction’
During the lone primary campaign debate between Gov. Andrew Cuomo and challenger Cynthia Nixon on Wednesday, talk turned to the New York City subways.
And it got heated fast.
It all started over whether or not the candidates would delay the fare hike on the subways.
“Yes, I think it’s unconscionable that we’re thinking of — Governor Cuomo is thinking about raising fares on a system that is working so poorly. as someone who is on the subway literally every day, I know firsthand how delays have tripled under Andrew Cuomo,” the actress turned politician replied.
At one point, moderator Marcia Kramer told Nixon her time was up.
She continued on: “He stole hundreds of millions from the MTA budget for his pet projects that have nothing to do with it.”
Kramer reminded Nixon again her time was up.
“He used the MTA like an ATM and we see the results,” Nixon continued on to claps, not yielding the floor.
Then, when asked for his response, Cuomo said this: “My opponent lives in the world of fiction. I live in the world of fact.”
The governor then said the fact is the subway system was owned by New York City.
“The MTA has been controlled by the state since 1965,” Nixon snapped back.
“Excuse me, can you stop interrupting?” Cuomo told Nixon. “Can you stop interrupting?”
“Can you stop lying?” Nixon shot back.
“As soon as you do…” Cuomo replied, before continuing on.
